چکیده

Within the sample of unidentified γ-ray sources found in the first survey of our Galaxy, AX J1838.0-065 is particularly interesting due to its likely physical association with the newly discovered TeV source HESS J1837-069 (Aharonian et al. 2005a). In fact, its position coincides with the center of gravity of the TeV emission and therefore has been suggested by Aharonian et al. (2005a) as the most promising counterpart candidate for HESS J1837069. Here, we report on INTEGRAL observations of AX J1838.0-0655 showing substantial emission in soft γ-rays, compare them with previous X-ray measurements as well as with the TeV data, describe the search for counterparts at other wavebands and discuss the possible nature of the source on the basis of our findings.

Hadronic model for radio - to - TeV γ - ray emission from PSR B 1259

We discuss the implications of the recent Xray and TeV γ-ray observations of the PSR B1259–63 system (a young rotation powered pulsar orbiting a Be star) for the theoretical models of interaction of pulsar and stellar winds. We show that previously considered models in which the pulsar wind is purely electron loaded have problems to account for the observed behaviour of the system in the TeV an...

Intrinsic Constraints on Very High Energy Emission in Gamma-ray Loud Blazars

Photons with very high energy up to TeV (VHE) emitted from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) provide some invaluable information of the origin of γ-ray emission. Although 66 blazars have been detected by EGRET, only three low redshift X-ray selected BL Lacs (Mrk 421, Mrk 501, and 1ES 2344+514) are conclusive TeV emitters (PKS 2155-304 is a potential TeV emitter) since VHE photons may be absorbed by...

Scientific Highlights from Observations of Active Galactic Nuclei with the MAGIC Telescope

Since 2004, the MAGIC γ-ray telescope has newly discovered 6 TeV blazars. The total set of 13 MAGIC-detected active galactic nuclei includes well-studied objects at other wavelengths like Markarian 501 and the giant radio galaxy M 87, but also the distant the flat-spectrum radio quasar 3C 279, and the newly discovered TeV γ-ray emitter S5 0716+71. In addition, also long-term and multi-wavelengt...

Microquasar LS 5039: a TeV gamma-ray emitter and a potential TeV neutrino source

The recent detection of TeV γ-rays from the microquasar LS 5039 by HESS is one of the most exciting discoveries of observational gamma-ray astronomy in the very high energy regime. This result clearly demonstrates thatX-ray binaries with relativistic jets (microquasars) are sites of effective acceleration of particles (electrons and/or protons) to multi-TeV energies. Whether the γ-rays are of h...

Inverse Compton Scenarios for the TeV Gamma-Ray Emission of the Galactic Centre

The intense Compton cooling of ultra-relativistic electrons in the Klein-Nishina regime in radiation dominated environments, such as that found in the Galactic Centre, may result in radically different electron spectra than those produced by Synchrotron cooling. We explore these effects and their impact on the X-ray and γ-ray spectra produced in electron accelerators in this region in compariso...
